Primroses – a hint of spring

Every year I paint primroses in spring to mark the start of another year. It is too early of course to have them poking through, but yesterday in the garden centre there were the beautiful primula. They winked at me, so here is my first painting of this spring and some from previous seasons: going back to 2009:

It is fun to see the progression in palette and style.

I also happened across the wonderful Jean Haines blog yesterday (http://watercolourswithlife.blogspot.co.uk) and laughed as she was doing exactly the same (doing it better of course). I looked at her colours and they certainly influenced me, as this year’s offering is far more optimistic and bright than previous.

So which is your favourite year?
